2I've used better ones...  Feb 28, 2010 By gh
UPDATE -- I removed a star
One of the 2 balls broke within 7 months. It completely split in half. The other ball is going strong, but I will not be ordering again for replacements. Back to the local stores to buy their "as seen on tv" ones. They were a little more pricey, but quieter & longer-lasting.

First off, if you're contemplating dryer balls, they're great.

We switched over to using them about 2 years ago & have had great results -- decent fabric softening qualities & considerable reduction in static cling. My wife has a sensitive nose & sensitive skin, so using dryer balls have allowed us to eliminate the need for heavily fragranced (heavily coated) dryer sheets. In the past, we've always just bought the balls locally, as we figured they're all the same.

These dryer balls were a lot cheaper than our local stores, so we decided to give them a try. They seem to do the job on par with our previous ones. The reason for the 3-star rating is that these are hard plastic vs. rubbery plastic on the previous models. As a result, these are loud! If you run laundry at night, or live in a condo with neighbors close by, this may irritate them. It's not as loud as throwing shoes in the dryer, but it is a constant sound of hard plastic continuously being rattled in your dryer. The closest example I can think of is... throw a few nickels in the dryer & run it. If the sound doesn't bother you... you'll be just fine. I'm hoping the plus will be that they last longer than the rubbery plastic balls.

All in all, if they last longer, I will buy again.

1Didn't work for me  May 01, 2010 By J. Burton
I have never used dryer balls but they were recommended to me. I bought these and they don't seem to work. They are really seriously noisy for the first 10ish minutes, and then they get really soft and almost split apart at the seems, not sure if this is what is supposed to happen or not? Also the load of laundry that I dried with them today was totally staticy when I got it out of the dryer. I guess I will be sticking with dryer sheets for now. My year old daugher and dog love to play with them though, not a total loss:P

1These fell apart  Mar 01, 2010 By dani c
I was disappointed that these dryer balls fell apart after the 5th or 6th use. I used the as seen on TV type in the past and they were a little bigger and lasted a few months before they fell apart. They didn't help with static either.

2Try a different brand!  Dec 30, 2011 By T. Wilson "WyldChyld"
My Sis-in-law has been using her dryer balls for years and swears that they help the clothes dry faster and prevent small loads from drying in a wadded up clump. (she's right) Unfortunately she couldn't remember what brand she got, so I tried this one. I bought them in August, when they arrived I was dismayed at how hard and rigid they were, but kept them anyway. Now, after less than 5 months of use they are breaking.

1Complete crap...  Aug 14, 2011 By M. Wheeler
These are nothing like the original dryer balls that I purchased. The originals were the Dryer Max - 'as seen on tv' version, and they turned out to be a relatively good product (and I still have them). They were unavailable at the time I made this purchase.

These are a different type of plastic, and tore in half after a few uses. A total waste of money.

Not recommended at all.
